The name Life On Its Side Productions came about after a difficult battle with an Ikea bed. I realized that I spent most of my life looking at things one way and needed to learn to put life on its side in order to get a clearer vision of things.
Think of me as Tarantino on estrogen, making films in a minor key.
The focus of Life On Its Side Productions has been to take the ordinary conventions of film and turn them on their side. Take the female stereotype and put a male spin on it. Take the male and put an estrogen twist on it. Find a way to turn the world on its side and see what happens.
Along the way, I have found a band of "devoted psychopaths" who have decided to join me on this journey, most coming from The Ark Theatre Company, where I have found a home as a theater director. Directing there since 2003, I have had the pleasure of working on plays such as "Lloyd's Prayer" and "Afterplay" with the most talented actors in Hollywood.
As a filmmaker, I am addicted to guerrilla filmmaking. I have done three 48 Hour Film Project films - Dark Guitar, Weight of the Word, and The Change-Up and a National Film Challenge - One Bad Day. Give me an impossible deadline, no budget, and no time and I'm at my best. Can't imagine what I would do with time, a budget and no insane deadline... although I'd like to find out some day.
